PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Labor Analyst is responsible for planning, designing, conducting research, interpreting economic data, and reporting on labor market trends in the areas of contingent labor and direct labor. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Studies economic and statistical data in the specialized area of labor for both contingent (Temp) and direct labor markets.
  • Devises methods and procedures for the collection and processing of data, utilizing knowledge and available sources of data and various econometric and sampling techniques.
  • Compiles data relating to research areas, such as employment, productivity, and wage an hours.
  • Reviews and analyzes economic and labor data, prepares reports detailing results.
  • Organizes data into report format and prepares supporting documentation and graphic illustrations of research findings.
  • Provides advice and consultation on economic relationships of key regional public and private industry sectors.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and reports data to explain economic phenomena and forecasts market trends in the specialized area of labor through the application of mathematical models and statistical techniques.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Individual must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience researching, analyzing and preparing comprehensive reporting of wage and hour statistics and correlation to economic data. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required; Master’s Degree is preferred with an emphasis in economics and statistics.

Ability to apply advanced math concepts, including intermediate and advanced statistical formulas and techniques.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Strong ability to solve practical problems.  Keen ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables where limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

14th IZA European Summer School in Labor Economics

May 16-22, 2011

at Buch, Ammersee Lake, Germany

CALL FOR PAPERS

The IZA European Summer School in Labor Economics was created in 1998, as an annual event taking place at the conference center of Deutsche Post DHL at the Ammersee Lake (near Munich) in Bavaria, Germany. The Summer School is supported by the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the European Economic Association (EEA), the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE), and the European Society for Population Economics (ESPE).

The objective of the Summer School is to bring together a large number of PhD students and senior lecturers to study new areas in labor economics. Students have the opportunity to present their work and discuss ideas with established researchers in a relaxed and open atmosphere.

The School is open to advanced graduate students from European universities, or Europeans studying abroad, engaged in the preparation of a doctoral dissertation or approaching that stage. Around 36 students will be selected, based on their preparation to participate in advanced study on the subject.

Generally the employer is offered a federal tax credit to off set the extra ordinary costs incurred during the employment process.

We are pleased to announce the 5th International Symposium on Contemporary Labor Economics at the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), Xiamen University, China. We invite submission of papers related to labor migration, internal migration and urbanization, spatial distribution of jobs, regional and rural-urban wage disparity, economic integration and labor market, trade and labor market, and education.

Researchers interested in participating should submit their paper through our online application form in the conference website.  The submission deadline is October 1st, 2010.  Decisions of acceptance will be announced by October 15th, 2010.

The Hannes Androsch Prize is awarded for a scientifically sound contribution to the following issue:

 

"A Global Challenge to our Social Future.

The Design of a Social Security System which can Cope with the Dual Threat of Demographic Developments and Financial Market Risk".

 

The award amounts to € 100,000.

 

Closing date for entries: January 31, 2011.

 

Entries should include a thorough analysis of the social welfare system. They should also provide proposals for an alternative design, which would optimise the magnitude and stability of pensions over time, and confront the double challenge of demographic developments and financial market risk.

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Program Associate, Economic Development

 

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is an organization comprised of international development professionals – researchers, policy specialists and program managers committed to the creation and sharing of the needed tools, approaches and techniques that will serve as catalysts for change for women worldwide. ICRW currently seeks a Program Associate, Economic Development.

The Program Associate (“PA”) will provide technical and administrative support to research activities within the Economic Development portfolio. Current projects include impact evaluations of interventions on women’s economic empowerment, enterprise education, financial products, and property rights. The PA will support project directors working on economic and related research in numerous areas, including preparation of data collection tools for quantitative and qualitative data analysis, checking, coding and cleaning data sets, analysis of large data sets, preparation of tables and figures for communication of research results, liaison with research counterparts overseas and conducting and organizing literature reviews and other secondary data searches. The PA will have the opportunity to contribute to the preparation of professional papers, research reports, presentations, articles and proposals and assist in the coordination of project activities with local and international partners. In addition, the PA will be responsible for assisting in general project management and administration, including working with project director to monitor budgets, develop project work plans, and maintain files and information. Finally, the PA will undertake other tasks as assigned by the portfolio manager and project directors, based on team and institutional priorities.

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Masters degree in Economics or other Social Science along with at least one year related experience in collection and analysis of survey data with a background in international development and gender issues. Experience in women’s property rights, microfinance and other financial products, economic empowerment and /or monitoring and evaluation a plus. Candidate should also be familiar with large data sets and statistical techniques. Proficiency in statistical software, preferably STATA, the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Internet applications including online database applications (e.g., EconLit & JStor) is a must. Candidate must possess strong skills in quantitative data management and analysis, report writing and editing, and visual presentation of research findings. Candidate should demonstrate maturity, resourcefulness, and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently, organize, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Fluency or good reading comprehension in French required.
